My favorite place to photograph birds in Florida is in the Ft. Myers, FL area. With in that area, the J. N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island is my favorite. When I lived in Ft. Myers back in the film days, I visited Ding Darling many times. Someday if hope I can scan those slides.
Other place in Ft. Myers include Bunch Beach, Six Mile Cypress Slough, and Lakes Park. Just across a bridge is Cape Coral. Burrowing Owl nest on the ground in vacant lots on the Cape. Corkscrew Swamp is just a short drive with a great boardwalk to get close to the birds. The Rookery in Venice is another area that is famous for nesting birds.
